Hogoz Entertainment produces independent narrative movies and documentary series primarily about women striving against difficult odds in the modern world. John Powers is the filmmaker behind Hogoz Entertainment. He tells the stories that he does, women struggling against trauma, because women are the more vulnerable among us.

WAR DOG

In War Dog, a father strives to welcome home his daughter from the war zone, but neither he nor her friends are prepared for what combat has done to this young woman.

War Dog was recently selected as a Finalist in the Sweden Film Awards. It was also selected as a Semi-Finalist in the Paris International Shorts Festival. This is in addition to selection for the Berlin Shorts Awards and the Roma Shorts Awards.

ANGELS LADDER

In Angels Ladder, when a devout woman takes ownership of a family home in the coastal hills north of Santa Barbara, she is possessed by the spirit of a Native woman and is transformed into a powerful seductress who begins to play out a trauma of her past.

Angels Ladder was recently recognized for Best Sound Design at the Paris International Film Awards. It was selected for a Gold Award at the Spotlight Short Film Awards. It was also an Award Winner in the Madrid Arthouse Film Festival and as a Semi-Finalist in the Roma Shorts Film Festival. It was also an Award Winner in the Stockholm Short Festival.

NiNA + SiMONE

In Nina + Simone, a Black musician, who is haunted by the manipulative ghost of his mother, searches in his dreams to find twin sisters, whom he once directed in a successful club act and had grown to consider as his true family.

Nina + Simone recently was selected as a nominee in the Milan Arthouse Film Awards, a Semi-Finalist in the Palm Springs Shorts, the Madrid Arthouse Film Festival, and the Stockholm Short Festival. It was also accepted for licensing on Filmhub. The novella from which the movie is adapted is available at Amazon.

PURSUIT OF KETAMINE

A documentary series that examines this legal medicine to treat depression and pain. Featuring Dr. Sam Ko and two patients, this series provides "real life" information to people who may be suffering from severe maladies.
